FAVORITE THING ABOUT JIU JITSU:
There are a lot of things that I enjoy about training jiu jitsu.  From the people that I have met along the journey to the experiences I would not have had if it weren't for jiu jitsu, whether it is working with various groups within the community or traveling to different cities across the country that I would have never considered traveling to.

FAVORITE JIU JITSU MEMORY:
When I first opened Frequency Martial Arts, my youngest daughter was 5 and said she didn't want to train.  While she would come with me to the school, she would just color in my office until it was time to go home.  One night, while I was leading the youth class, she had put on the uniform that I had for in my office and joined us for class.  She still trains and I love having her on the mats.

ADVICE YOU WOULD HAVE GIVEN TO YOURSELF WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED TRAINING:
Change your diet, drink more water and less Gatorade.  Travel to the workshops and film recaps of your private lessons so you can look back and review the advice that was shared with you.

Spider Guard / Lasso

FAVORITE THING ABOUT JIU JITSU:
I love the challenge of not only learning and understanding the mental aspect of jiu jitsu, but then also mastering the physical aspect with the execution of the techniques. There are never-ending opportunities for growth and it's really helped me appreciate what my mind and body are capable of.

FAVORITE JIU JITSU MEMORY:
Getting the first stripe on my white belt! During training you consistently have coaches and teammates acknowledging your effort and learning, but it was such a great feeling to have that little "official" recognition that I was making progress.

ADVICE YOU WOULD HAVE GIVEN YOURSELF WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED TRAINING:
Don't be so hard on yourself and remember why you decided to start. "It's a marathon, not a sprint," feels so cliche but it's true. It might take a really long time to notice big progress in your game so celebrate even the smallest wins - I don't remember the names of the moves from today, but I'm feeling more flexible and noticed I have more energy. I didn't get any submissions, but I focused on trying new things versus winning the round and had a lot more fun. The only person standing in your way is you!
